Danna K. Johnston - President
Danna K. Johnston grew up in Seattle and graduated from Franklin High School. She earned an undergraduate degree in International Studies from the University of Washington. During college, she studied abroad at Peking University in Beijing, as well as the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico. Danna worked in finance for many years at a major global bank, where she was involved in many of the organizations community outreach efforts – it is here where she found her true calling which was to give back to her community. In 2008, Danna founded her non-profit foundation while simultaneously starting her for-profit skin care business. In this way, she could educate women on self-care, address the needs of at-risk youth, and give back a portion of profits to the communities in which she conducted business.
Danna loves travelling, yoga, and good food. Danna and her husband Jim live in Newcastle, Washington with their two Chihuahuas - Maggie and Jackson.
Tara Davis - Family Engagement Coordinator
Tara Davis was born and raised in the Seattle area. Ms. Davis grew up as an active member of the Rainier Beach Community Center and was a member of the Rotary Boys and Girls Club. It was at this center and club where she quickly realized a true passion in athletics. Davis excelled in athletics winning all state honors in both track and basketball and then received an athletic scholarship to the University of Washington in 1990 Tara Davis currently holds the University of Washington school record for the triple jump and is number 2 on the all-time list for the long jump. After graduating in 1995, Davis went on to work with at risk high school students in the Renton School District where she developed a tutoring outreach program and also assisted with the girls basketball and track and field team. Ms. Davis then went on to participate in the ABL (American Basketball League) women’s professional basketball league and played for the Seattle Reign and the New England Blizzard and abroad.
After participating as a professional athlete Davis built her professional career and network in telecom, finance, marketing, and the real estate sector. Her plan is to combine her professional and educational experiences to become an active leader at the high school level.
Tara holds a Masters in Education from the University of Washington in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies emphasizing Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.
C'Ardiss Gardner Gleser - Academic Consultant
C’Ardiss Gardner Gleser is a Seattle native. She is currently the Director of Programs at Technology Access Foundation. Prior to working in education, C’Ardiss worked at IDX Systems as a Software Engineer for a number of years. Her passion for education and equity lead her away from Corporate America and back to school to pursue her passions. In addition to her professional career, C’Ardiss has been an active volunteer in her community, serving on the boards of several local and national organizations focused on education, access, and youth mentorship, including A Better Chance in Connecticut. Most recently C’Ardiss was selected to serve as a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Yale Black Alumni Association. C’Ardiss has given lectures and lead discussions on race and equity for several organizations. She lives in Seattle with her husband and three children.
C’Ardiss holds a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies from Yale University and a Masters in Education Administration from Seattle University.
Connie McColley - Executive Assistant
Connie is a Colorado native and moved to Seattle in 1979. She spent 12 years in Electronics Distribution at Customer Service and Sales and Marketing Support positions. After her career took her to a managing post at a cleaning company for 5 years, she decided to become an entrepreneur and started her own successful business which she led for a decade. When her mother-in law had a stroke, Connie made the decision to focus exclusively on her care while she moved-in to live with Connie and her husband.
Connie has been blessed with not having to work outside the home, but felt the need to be involved with a worthwhile cause and to give back. Along with her husband, they attended the Successful Youth Inc. Gala in 2010 (previously known as The Danna K. Johnston Foundation Gala). It touched her heart to see the work the organization was doing with young people and immediately knew that she wanted to be involved. Connie really believes that "children are our future" and it has been a great pleasure for her to be involved with Successful Youth Inc. since then.
Connie is a graduate of the Adams City High School in Commerce City, CO. She is married to her wonderful husband Roger since 1981. They have three children and 6 grandchildren.
Tonya Mosley - Team Adviser
Tonya Mosley is a Detroit native. She's currently a radio reporter for KUOW radio in Seattle and the founder and Editor in Chief of NewNaturalista.com. Tonya was previously a television reporter for KING5 News in Seattle and she has won several awards including three from the Associated Press for reporting. She also had the fortune of working as a summer video journalist for the National Geographic Society where she traveled to Egypt, Greece and Germany. Currently a board trustee for the Giddens School in Seattle and a mentor for the youth empowerment group “Her Best Self”, when she’s not digging for stories, Tonya enjoys spending time with her family, blogging, tennis and enjoying the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Tonya attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and holds a certificate in Essential Skills For The Digital Journalist from Poynter Institute.
Marcia Strackhouse - Trustee
Marcia has been working with Successful Youth Inc. since 2010. She is an active member in her community and works in Operations with a local Biotech. Marcia has worked on several political campaigns, community outreach programs and youth support programs.
Marcia holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Public Relations from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters degree (MA) in Accounting from University of Washington. She is a LEED certified professional through Golden Gate University.
